KS4 Personal Development
The aim of the Personal Development curriculum is to develop you as an individual and as a citizen of our community. We aim to give you the skills and knowledge to be respectful and safe in the decisions you make.
Our curriculum builds on the four strands of personal development from KS3:
- Relationships and sex education
- Careers
- Healthy lifestyles including mental health and drug use
- Citizenship - Including British Values as well as fulfilling the statutory requirements to teach Religious Education as KS4.

By the end of Year 10 students will have:
- Understanding of the difference between identity and sexuality.
- An awareness of the impact of watching pornography on relationships.
- Knowledge of STIs, how to prevent them and treat them.
- An understanding of long term health conditions caused by drugs.
- Knowledge of when/how to seek support for self-harm, eating disorders and feelings of suicide.
- An awareness of what it is like to be British and religious.
- Knowledge of saving money and pensions.
- Knowledge of youth crime and consequences.
- Writing a CV
Work experience |
By the end of Year 11 students will have:
- An understanding of what constitutes coercive control.
- Knowledge of the responsibilities of a parent.
- An understanding of the consequences of illegal sexual and relationship practices such as FGM and forced marriage.
- Knowledge of different types of cancers and how to screen/check for them.
- An understanding of environmental issues and what can be done to limit the changes.
- Knowledge of student loans and managing debt.
- Applications to post-16 courses.
- Completing mock interviews.

RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION: |
Delivered as: Topic 1
Rationale:
- - Encourage pupil understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ relationships. Signpost support.
- - Provide pupils with an awareness of all the issues raised by gender identity.
- - Provide pupils with specific examples of how to demonstrate positive behaviours within a relationship.
- - Knowledge about the risks of forming and conducting online relationships.
- - Knowledge of how to manage the impact of pornography on sexual attitudes, expectations and behaviours.
- - Provide pupils with up to date information on STIs and how and where to get tested/treated.

Rationale:
- Provide an understanding of the long term health conditions when regularly using drugs.

- Enable pupils to recognise specific unhealthy behaviours relating to mental and physical health.
- Signpost support in and out of school for more serious mental health issues.
